Danny Bonnar, the company founder and managing director, started in the construction business over forty years ago, with a second hand lorry and a shovel. Shovelling sand by hand on to the back of his lorry, Danny has now built the business from these humble beginnings to one which employs over 15 local staff and has an annual turnover of over £1.5 million.
The Bonnar name is now well recognised in the construction industry, since 1962. In 1975 Bonnar Sand & Gravel was incorporated as a limited company. The company has an enviable reputation for reliability and quality, built up over many decades.
After many successful years operating from a base at the Holy Loch near Dunoon, the company undertook a major expansion in 1981 by establishing the Clachan Quarry in Cairndow, which is a 25 hectare site with excellent natural hard rock deposits. The company continues to operate from this quarry.
