Environment

At Bonnar Sand & Gravel Co we have a continuous and active policy of minimising any impacts on the environment. This of course includes investing in the best technology for increased efficiencies. However, our recycling and regeneration actions are also just as important. For example in 2009 we purchased a new screening plant to recycle quarry waste and large stockpiles of whin dust. Previously this was by-products from our manufacturing process, with no ready market. However, we have now turned these products into two valuable sand products that meet stringent B.S. standards.

At our quarry we recently converted an old working site into a local beauty spot. After excavating an area which had no vegetation or animal life, we cleaned up the area for regeneration. This area (see photographs) is now a pond with full vegetation surrounding it, fish are abundant, and birds, deer, and other animal life reside on, or frequent the site.

The quarry is also located in an area known for its stunning scenery. To minimise the visual impact, the quarry works are located a fair distance from the main trunk route (A83), the entrance is deliberately small, and the main working area is hidden from view by trees and the natural landscape. (See pictures).

Bonnar Sand & Gravel Co is also currently exploring further ways to minimise our carbon footprint.
